The 8 of Zemst, departure Weerde (51,5km)

The 8 of Zemst is a route in the form of a flat 8. The distance of 51.5km (officially 54km) is driven along a loop of 26km (northwest) and a loop of 25.5km (northeast). Except for half a km, both loops are the same length.
Between the center of Eppegem and the Schranshoeve (Schranslaan-Kreupelstraat-Stijn Streuvelslaan) both loops overlap.
The normal room is in the overlap at the dining café 't Schrans, Stijn Streuvelslaan 92.
You can choose which loop to take first:
the north-western loop mainly serves the boroughs of Zemst, Zemst-Laar and Eppegem, while
the northeastern loop crosses the boroughs of Weerde, Hofstade and Elewijt.

Because we leave in Weerde at the high-pointed village church Sint-Martinus (café Schoonzicht from Man Bijt Hond) we first follow the northeast loop, but in the opposite sense as the officially signposted 8, which is owned by www.toerismevlaamsbrabant.be.
It goes through the following village centers or (sights) in order:
(Hoogspitse dorpskerk) Weerde - (Weerdemolen) - Eppegem - (Schranshoeve) - Zemst - Zemst-Laar - Oksdonk - (Sea lock and Brussels-Willebroek canal) - Humbeek Bridge/Sas - Zemst-Bos - Eppegem - (Rubens Castle) - Elewijt - (Castle of Schiplaken) - Schiplaken - (edge of the recreation park) Hofstade - (Leuvensevaart) - Spreeuwenhoek - (Visput Weerde) - Weerde.

It's surprising how that reverse direction can give a very different picture of the views.

This route is flat, rural and quiet (few busy roads) with few slopes. Because she passes through different village centers, there is several opportunities for a drink on the way.
