In the wake of Reinaert, where past glory of nature gives way

Stekene, also known as the green lung of Waasland, is the most densely forested municipality in East Flanders. This "green lung" also borders Sinaai and the parish of Puivelde, which can proudly boast valuable pieces of nature in their own right. The story of the fox Reinaert, "the clever one with his red beard," inspired the development of the Regional GR Waas- and Reynaertland in the Land of Waas. It is this Regional GR that will serve as your guide during this day hike. Along the way, you will get to know the “Meersen” (marshlands) and the quiet area around the Stekense Vaart, the Fondatie Van Boudelo. On your way back from Sinaai, you will pass the Boskapel and eventually land back in the center of Stekene, passing through the small center of Puivelde, along the Molenbeek, and with a detour through the Gelaag of Stekene. While enjoying this hike, you might just cross paths with a descendant from the Reinaert story.
