In the core of Meerssen you are surrounded by history. The old Basilica, the Proosdijpark and the monumental station buildings: you can admire them all during this walk. Yet the history of Meerssen goes back further than is visible above ground. This walk takes you past places where Roman history, sometimes just underground, is hidden. Since the 19th century, Meerssen has been busy searching for Roman remains. You will all encounter the successes, sites of Roman villas, statues of gods and the probable route of the Via Belgica .
