Berlindekapel :
Berlinde is a toponym and refers to 'berre' or barren linden. Thus, at this place once stood a dry linden or one without leaves. In 1623, Jan De Croock was paid for making a tree chapel. The stone chapel was built following a petition in 1670 by Jan Eeghers, the mayor of Laarne. An extension to the south side in 1774 gave the chapel its current shape with an entrance portal and chancel. Many parts of the interior are still authentic, such as the shrine and carpentry of the entrance door, the baluster railing of the chancel, and the plastered vault. The current bell tower replaces an older example. Until the 1960s, the pilgrimage to the chapel was the highlight of popular devotion for the locals. The restored chapel was inaugurated by the Bishop of Ghent, Van Looy, on April 29, 2012. The Berlindekapel is freely accessible during the day.
In the vicinity of the Berlindekapel, a confrontation took place during World War I between Germans and local residents who ventured too close to the enemy camp.
LAARNE: On Sunday, September 13, the 23rd edition of Open Monument Day will take place. In Laarne, the program has been restructured due to COVID-19, but those who wish can certainly safely undertake several walks in the municipality along beautiful monuments. In the mid-1980s, this building became the home for the local police and the Population service of Kalken. The council chamber remained in use for weddings, anniversaries, and exhibitions. Because the building no longer met modern standards and regulations, it was decided during the previous legislature to proceed with a thorough renovation.
Saint Anthony's Chapel and farmhouse

Former farmhouse worker's house according to the cadastre archive built in 1846 by Dominique Van Acker and expanded in 1887 by farmer Jozef van Acker (registration in 1894). According to the current owner, the chapel was built in 1913 after the death of his grandfather, although the cadastre archive states that the chapel was constructed in 1906 by Jozef Van Acker.
Prullenbos is an idyllic recreation area with a fishing pond located on the municipal border of Wetteren & Laarne and has a rich history. The domain is a popular spot for young and old alike. A place where children can romp in the play valley, where you can walk and cycle, and where you can enjoy breakfast, ice cream, pancakes,… But Prullenbos is also an event location where you can party, stay overnight, hold meetings, organize team buildings, and workshops in a green environment!
Sint Annakerk with organ The parish church of Wetteren-ten-Ede borders to the north and east to the public road. In front of the church is a small square that opens onto the sidewalk for the rectory. The parcel to the south of the church was used as a cemetery from 1875 until the early 1930s. Currently, it forms a wooded area on which a parish hall was recently built. This former cemetery side borders laterally to the rectory with the surrounding garden of the Saint Anna parish.
Kalkense Meersen:
As a finishing touch to the works in the Kalkense Meersen, ANB is building a pedestrian and cyclist bridge over the Kalkenvaart. This bridge in corten steel sits right on the border between Kalken and Schellebelle. This way, you can now cross the Canal in the middle of the Meersen and make shorter walks or bike rides via the restored Tragelweg. The bridge will also form a unique viewpoint over the Kalkense Meersen.
Don’t forget to stop by the Grote Markt in Dendermonde, there are plenty of terraces (local beer VICARIS)
