The Max Planck Institute for Meteorology is an internationally renowned institute for climate research. Its mission is to understand changes in the climate brought on by global warming. Founded in 1975, it is operated by the Max Planck Society and based in Hamburg's district of Eimsbüttel.
The MPI-M comprises three departments and, together with the University of Hamburg, an international PhD programme.
