The Aspeler-Schmales Meer nature reserve is located on the territory of the town of Rees in the district of Kleve in North Rhine-Westphalia, has been designated as a protected area since 2010 and covers an area of 23 hectares.
In particular, it serves to protect and preserve two scenically significant oxbows as well as a biotope complex consisting of oxbow lakes, structurally rich grassland and old park-like trees. The development goal is the creation of a near-natural still water body through the creation of shallow water zones and the development of extensively used grassland.
