Berlebeck is the largest district of Detmold with 12.6 km² and is located about 5 km south of the historic city center. Berlebeck is characterized by streams and wooded hills. In the east, the village is framed by the Wallberg (256 m above sea level) and in the west by the Hahnberg (260 m above sea level), which is dominated by the Hohe Warte (325 m above sea level).

Directly at the starting point of the tour, you will find the Café-Restaurant Haus Hangstein at the hiking parking lot. The history of the Haus Hangstein dates back to the 19th century. In 1901, the Ewe family took over the property and thus established the "highest summer resort" in Lippe. Due to the large adjacent forest area, the house was also used as a starting point for princely hunting trips until the First World War.

During your hike, you will come across the Bird and Flower Park Heiligenkirchen and the LWL Open-Air Museum Detmold:

The Bird and Flower Park Heiligenkirchen offers a well-maintained park landscape with more than 1000 birds and mammals from all over the world. Close animal experiences are provided by the petting meadow with parrots, the parakeet aviary, and a small petting zoo with goats. In the breeding station, you can observe chicken chicks hatching.

The LWL Open-Air Museum Detmold is the largest open-air museum in Germany with an area of more than 90 hectares. Nearly 120 originally furnished half-timbered houses reflect the everyday culture of Westphalia over the past 500 years. In addition to various craft demonstrations, workshops on the annual exhibition are regularly held.

The destination of the hike is Detmold's historic city center. Detmold captivates with the interplay of historical charm and modern cultural life. Over 700 architectural monuments can be discovered in the small, winding alleys of the historic city center. Additionally, the cultural city is home to two universities, a renowned theater, and several noteworthy museums.
