A dive into history

The Hôtel de Montaulbain is more than just a place to stay, it's a living piece of Verdun's history. Nestling against the ancient ramparts of the Castrum, it was originally Simon du Châtel's private mansion, acquired in 1388 to become the town hall and home to the town bell. In the past, its cellars were even used as a prison! In 1680, Louis XIV installed France's first Master Alderman here. In 1738, the municipality moved to the present-day town hall, leaving behind a building steeped in history.
