It is a creation of artist Paul Vendel, who, partly at the request of the Osdorp district council, was allowed to deliver a work of art for the intersection Pieter Calandlaan with Baden Powellweg. Before the nineties of the 20th century, the Baden Powellweg formed the boundary between the urban buildings and lands with a lot of castle and horticulture. It was built under the name Middelveldse Akerpolder and the Pieter Calandlaan was extended into the new district De Aker. There was still a bridge to the Zuiderakerweg on site. There was a wide road bridge bridge in 1886, which was also made impossible to cross by tram line 1 and that it was easy to maintain.
