Counts and countesses who rule over subjects. And sisters who dedicate themselves 'Pro Deo' to a just society… They seem to be two separate worlds. There is a place where these worlds come together: the Castle Museum in Boxmeer. There, the rich history of the castle, its former noble and its current religious inhabitants is highlighted in a surprising way. Castle Boxmeer, located near the border with neighboring Germany and our own province of Limburg, has a tumultuous history. The fortress on a former island in the Meuse was repeatedly besieged, destroyed, and rebuilt for centuries. The medieval stronghold eventually made way in the 18th century for a noble country house. Fortunately, the wing with the old knight hall from the early 17th century was preserved! This knight hall is indeed rich in a magnificent stucco ceiling.
