Green Change Sauwerd: the Reitdiep area

Explore tranquil paths and cycling routes for a lovely, short walk through the Reitdiep area (one of the oldest cultural landscapes in Europe). The heavily meandering river Hunze (now Reitdiep) connected Groningen to the sea. In today's landscape, the old riverbeds are still very visible in many places, for example around the Old Diepje, where you can walk along and over a few times with this walking route. Along the way, you stroll through two residential areas and the characteristic Groningen villages of Groß- and Klein Wetsinge, the first of which is situated on a beautiful, high, and authentic terp. You can visit the church in Klein Wetsinge from the inside; you can obtain the key from the neighbors. If you are interested, you can extend this walking route by four kilometers by hiking to and from the characteristic Groningen village of Garnwerd at halfway; there is also the only hospitality establishment along this beautiful and interesting walking route.
