En abril de 1349 se lee aquí una carta que anuncia una enorme crisis y epidemia. Es una carta de Lodewijk Heyligen de Beringen que tiene una función importante en la corte del papa de Aviñón. La peste se avecina. Lodewijk Heyligen cuenta que en enero de 1349 ha llegado un barco a Marsella. Las personas a bordo estaban horriblemente infectadas. Él relata que la mitad de la gente de Aviñón ya ha muerto. Es mejor que te encierras en tu casa hasta que la epidemia haya pasado.
