“¿Sabías que este no es un castillo antiguo?”, pregunta Walter en el Sterckshof. “Fue construido en 1932 y lleva el nombre de Gerard Sterck, un rico comerciante que tuvo muchas tierras aquí en los siglos XV y XVI.” El Sterckshof está en venta. “Durante años, el Museo de la Plata estuvo alojado aquí. Esa colección ha sido incorporada al museo del diamante DIVA en la ciudad. Una parte del castillo es hostelería, el resto está vacío.”
Desde el Sterckshof, continuamos caminando por el verde Eksterlaarpad. “Durante 250 años - hasta que se inauguró la iglesia de San Roque en 1895 - la iglesia de Fredegandus fue la única iglesia de Deurne. Varias veces a la semana, los creyentes caminaban por este camino de Deurne-Sur hacia la iglesia de Fredegandus en Deurne-Norte. En los bordes de hierba de este sendero hacían sus necesidades. Así que este era nuestro fragante camino”, bromea Walter.
