La cappella fu commissionata nel 1597 a Pierre Biard, uno dei più grandi scultori e architetti dell'epoca, da Jean-Louis de Nogaret de La Valette, duca di Epernon, per ospitare la tomba della moglie, Marguerite de Foix Candale, morta nel 1593. L'architettura dell'insieme, con i suoi legni, l'altare e la pala d'altare sono stati conservati senza modifiche. Il tabernacolo è stato aggiunto nel XIX secolo. Il mausoleo fu demolito nel 1793. Era considerato dai suoi contemporanei come uno dei più belli di Francia. Una cripta a volta sotto la cappella ospita le tombe della famiglia Epernon.
