La Bofors è una ditta svedese del settore difesa che vanta una tradizione legata all'industria del ferro che risale a più di 350 anni fa. La ditta ha sede in Karlskoga . Fu fondata con il nome "Boofors" nel 1646 e in origine produceva mulini. Nel 1873 la società venne strutturata come la conosciamo oggi.
Nel 1999, la Saab acquisì il Celsius Group, all'epoca proprietario della Bofors. Nel settembre 2000, la United Defense Industries ha acquisito la divisione per le armi pesanti Bofors Weapons Systems, mentre la Saab ha mantenuto la parte che si occupa di missili. Nel 2005 la British Aerospace ha acquisito la United Defense e la collegata Bofors.
