De Normandwijk was in het begin van de jaren dertig (zie foto) een nieuwe, duidelijk toeristisch georiënteerde verkaveling, o.a. gepromoot door toenmalig toparchitect Vereecke, die een uitloper moest worden van de zeedijkwijk. Men nam de Normandische bouwstijl als voorbeeld om een wijk te bouwen met vrijstaande villa's in het groen. Het is eigenlijk een latere toepassing van de tuinwijkgedachte die al eerder in Westende-Bad werd toegepast. Het was destijds ook een duidelijke reactie tegen het meer verstedelijkte karakter van de gebouwen op de Zeedijk.
