Lampernisse heeft een oppervlakte van 13,62 km² en telt (gegevens 2007) bijna 200 inwoners. Volgens metingen is het de geluidarmste gemeente van de Westhoek.
Het is meer dan waarschijnlijk de geboorteplaats van Nicolaas Zannekin, een Vlaming die zich verzette tegen de onderdrukking en de annexatiepolitiek van de toenmalige Franse koning Filips VI en zijn aanhangers in Vlaanderen. Hij sneuvelde tijdens de Slag bij Kassel in 1328.
