Het gebouw werd door W.H. Auer in neorennaissancistische stijl ontworden en voltooid in 1902 en draagt de bijnaam "de Koepel", vanwege de Florentijns geïnspireerde architectuur en staat op een klif met fraai uitzicht over het Aaredal. De noordkant kijkt uit over de Bundesplatz, maar de mooiste aanblik is vanaf het zuiden, van de Monbijoubrücke over de Aare. Hier huizen de regering, eigenlijk de Bondsraad, en de kamers van de Wetgevende Vergadering. Rondleiding (op afspraak, een dag tevoren reserveren), meertalig, niet tijdens zittingen (alleen de tribune is dan toegankelijk). Duurtijd: 45min. Gratis. Je hebt een identiteitsbewijs nodig. Een interessant bezoek voor wie zich afvraagt hoe een meertalig land bestuurd wordt. De 26 fontijnen voor het paleis symboliseren de 26 Zwitserse kantons. Met een kabelspoor aan de westzijde van het Bundeshaus kunnen bezoekers afdalen in het Aaredal.
