De historische stad Lindau ligt aan de Bodensee. Het oude stadsgedeelte staat onder monumentenzorg en een maal per jaar, rond eind juni begin juli, komen de Nobelprijshouders uit de gehele wereld er bijeen.
Het bij Beieren behorende Lindau ligt dicht bij Zwitserland en Oostenrijk aan de voet van de Allgäuer Voralpen en wordt gezien als een vakantie eiland. De Marktplatz, de Hauptstrasse en het Alte Rathaus, zijn een bezoekje waard.
