Dit kleine, particulier gerunde museum geeft een gevoel van het gewone leven onder het communisme. Toen Duitsland in 1990 werd herenigd, konden de meeste Oost-Duitsers hun oude meubels, uit de mode geraakte kleding en verouderde huishoudelijke artikelen niet snel genoeg vervangen. Sommigen konden het echter gewoon niet verdragen om hun herinneringen weg te gooien. Dankzij deze nostalgische types werd dit museum, het enige in het land dat het dagelijkse Duitse leven achter het IJzeren Gordijn afbeeldt, in 2006 opgericht op de golf van het Ostalgie-fenomeen.
