Katedralen af OLV Himmelfart er et af de vigtigste monumenter i Évora. Da Évora i 1166 blev genvundet fra muslimerne af kristne, blev der straks påbegyndt bygningen af en katedral helliget den Hellige Jomfru. Katedralen blev indviet i 1204. Bygningen rummer både romanske og gotiske stiltræk og er blevet ombygget regelmæssigt gennem århundrederne. I det 14. århundrede blev der tilføjet en kloster gang i ren gotisk stil. I det 15. og 16. århundrede blev kirkerummet, prædikestolen, dåbskapellet og kapellet for OLV af Barmhjertighed tilføjet i manuelinsk stil. I det 18. århundrede fulgte Capilla Mayor i barokstil.
