Die gelbe Schwertlilie ist eine häufige Art entlang der Ufer von Gräben, Bächen, Flüssen, Kanälen und Tümpeln, aber auch auf nassen Wiesen. Die wunderschönen gelben Blumen sind von Mai bis Juli zu sehen. Sie haben eine auffällige Form mit drei nach außen gebogenen und drei aufrechten Blütenhüllblättern. Die Bestäubung erfolgt hauptsächlich durch Hummeln und Bienen, die vollständig in die Blüte kriechen müssen, um an den Nektar zu gelangen.
