Wenn wir über einen gewundenen Waldweg wieder die offene Landschaft erreichen, taucht in der Ferne ein Apfelgarten auf. „Das hier finde ich das schönste Stück des Weges“, sagt Hanne, während sie in die Ferne schaut. „Ich liebe diese Weitblicke und die Offenheit. Im Wald fühlt es sich für mich zu dunkel und zu geschlossen an. Das ist der höchste Punkt von Hasselt. Den nennen sie ‚den Grat von Hasselt‘.“ Google bestätigt: etwa 66 Meter über dem Meeresspiegel, zwischen der Mombeek und der Demer.
