On the platform you will not only find a few photos of the man himself, but also the bike he used when he broke the world time record in Mexico in 1972. The heroic cyclist grew up in Sint-Pieters-Woluwe (Woluwe-Saint-Pierre), in the south east of Brussels.
In 2019, the Tour de France began at the Grote Markt (Grand Place) in Brussels. A tribute to Merckx, who achieved his first tour victory exactly 50 years ago.
