Originally, Molenbeersel did not have a church; most of the territory belonged to the parish of Neeritter. Near the old center of Molenbeersel, on the Oude Kerkstraat/Grootbroekstraat, there was a Saint Leonard's Chapel since 1772. In 1834, this chapel became an independent church. The parish of St. Leonard, which includes the current territory of Molenbeersel, was founded in 1837.
