The Gaverbeek hippodrome is known for Waregem Koerse. The race takes place every year on the Tuesday after the last weekend of August. The race has been held since 1848 and features eight races, including both harness racing and flat racing.
In the flat races, there are also hurdles to jump over, with the Irish Berm and the jump over the Gaverbeek being the most famous and notorious obstacles. Recently, the obstacles were modified to make them more animal-friendly.
The highlight of the race, the Grote Steeple Chase of Flanders, is the largest race in Flanders.
