Railway line 44 connected Liège to the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg. It was inaugurated on February 17, 1867.
At the time, traffic was important, fed mainly by freight trains for the transport of Verviers textiles, logs, Spa Monopole mineral waters and coke from Germany.
But with the slowdown in economic activity and the line is definitively dismantled in 1974.
From 2007, the route is gradually redeveloped into (pre) Ravel and now welcomes walkers and cyclists. The last section between Sart and Hockay was inaugurated in 2011, now allowing walks from Spa to the German border.
The old station of Sart-lez-Spa, built in 1890 is nestled in an exceptional environment. It has been beautifully preserved by its former owner, Paul Heymans, a lover of the trains of yesteryear. Not only is the railway building restored without a false note, but it also has the particularity of maintaining a 70-metre flow of a track.
