When it was built by Valentin Lambert at the end of the 19th century, it bore the name of its neighborhood. That of Jumet Hamendes, a significant site of the workers' revolt where the Baudoux glassworks were set on fire in 1886. We had to wait until 1912 for the castle to take the name of its second owner, Léon Mondron, who married Valentin Lambert's daughter. A hybrid architecture, the building relies on a medieval block and incorporates cutting-edge industrial techniques, including art deco stained glass windows. Its other characteristic is that it houses a church. Before passing away in 1929, Madame Mondron expressed the wish to be buried at home. But she also asked her children to ensure that mass continued to be celebrated in the venerable manor: they therefore had a 250-seat church built without altering the facade. The unique character of this construction makes it a curiosity in Europe. This is also one of the reasons why the whole complex was classified as a monument in 2008.
