Large lake and creek area - Terhills - Maasmechelen

As a result of the gravel extraction, ponds arose here and there.

The intention was to later fill the pits with the mountains of mining waste. This turned out to be a bad solution because of the groundwater quality , among other things . The banks of the gravel pits were adapted with the prospect of recreation. The lake attracts diverse bird life and the vegetation around the creeks is breeding ground for a number of species. It is forbidden to swim in the waters , except in the area near Terland Beach.
