These two ancient boundary stones mark the borders of historical power areas that have now disappeared, with the exception of one, Belgium. The smaller stone bears the sign S.M. (Stavelot-Malmedy) and marked, until the French rule at the end of the 18th century, the boundary between the "Postelleries" of Stavelot and Malmedy. 'Postelleries' were former judicial districts.
The larger stone with the designation B.P. indicated the border between what was then the Netherlands (today Belgium, Stavelot) and Prussia (today Belgium, Malmedy) from 1815 to 1919.
