In 1875, at the end of her life, the unmarried Virgenie De Braeckeleer had this chapel built.
To ensure the welfare of the family, her brother Theodoor included in his will that the churchwardenship should receive the sum of 15 francs for maintenance for 50 years. Not a bad amount at the time.
It is worth taking a look inside the chapel of Our Lady of Lourdes.
The chapel, known in Woubrechtegem as the Grote Kapel, is a gem and is kept spotless by local residents. It was a regular stop during the procession that passed through the village every year.
