The Fondry des Chiens in Nismes is also known as the Grand Canyon of the Ardennes, but it is not really comparable. The Fondry des Chiens is a natural pit that has formed by rainwater seeping through the limestone soil. Due to millions of years of water erosion, a gigantic pit has formed that is more than 20 meters deep. These natural pits are called Fondry's. It is truly a beautiful place to see because you absolutely do not expect it in this landscape. Jagged rocks, crevices, caverns, and rainwater that keeps dripping. In the summer months, you can see many lizards basking in the sun on the impressive rocks.
