Eclectic Discovery

Although the majority of this route run along paved roads, a mountain bike or something that will take you through some dirt roads is recommended. The non-paved parts are relatively short so you could consider walking those.

This route takes us through the center of Oudenaarde and then to some back roads that will plunge us straight in the countryside. We follow the small river called "Maarkebeek" upstream towards the source. Approaching that point in Schorisse we attack the hillside with steep climb (12%) up the "Foreest". A the top we take a left and head down over a piece of non-paved road. Cruising back downstream we play around the river which means some more modest up-and-downs.
In Etikhove we push through the fields heading towards the river "Schelde". As of here no more ups and downs, only straight and winding flat road now. After crossing the N60 we find our way to a deserted railroad track, now a bicycle-only stretch of straight and flat fun. Ideal for a small time trial. Al the end of the track we switch to the other side of the Schelde and follow it downstream back to Oudenaarde.
Almost there, time for drink. The last kilometers of this track take us along the "Donk" which is a small lake with lots of recreational opportunities, including a bar. If you're still up to it after the drinks you can take the long way around the lake which is a perfect mountain bike track. However, the route will take you the shortest way ending up a the same spot and then heading back to the Bed & Bikefest location. Make sure you saved a tiny bit of energy because the last part requires again a bit of uphill riding.
