Proissans is a municipality consisting of a main village and several hamlets and individual farms, with a population of 1,043 in the southeast of the southern French department of Dordogne in the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region, in the historical cultural landscape of Périgord. The village of Proissans is located about six kilometers northeast of the town of Sarlat-la-Canéda and approximately 65 kilometers southeast of Périgueux, at an altitude of about 185 meters above sea level. The climate is temperate and is influenced equally by the Atlantic Ocean and the mountains of the Central Massif; rain falls throughout the year.
