The Torretta Pepoli is a small fortress that was built in 1872 by order of Count Agostino Pepoli on the slopes of Monte Erice, below the Torri del Balio.
It was used by the Count to accommodate literary friends of the time in his home and as a place of meditation and study for his archaeological research work.
The original architectural style is reminiscent of Moorish models, medieval architecture with vague Art Nouveau references. The close connection between the natural element (the rock) and the structure itself is clear and reveals a sensibility reminiscent of classical Greek architecture.
The tower has been open to the public as an interactive museum since 2014 and has been titled the Peace Observatory and Mediterranean Lighthouse.
