Chapel St. Pirmin

The founder of the Reichenau Abbey, St. Pirmin, who came from Spain, is said to have visited the place named after him, ‘Pirmesknupp,’ in the first half of the 8th century and at that occasion blessed the spring under the current chapel. Be that as it may, during the time of the Romans, there was a Roman villa on ‘Pirmesknupp’; in the second half of the 12th century, a chapel and a hermit's dwelling were established at the same location. The chapel, built in 1652, still stands today. The hermit's dwelling was abandoned in 1783. Only a few remnants of the nearby farmstead close to the small sanctuary can still be seen. On Pentecost Monday, a procession leaves from Kaundorf every year to ‘Pirmesknupp,’ where a church service is held at the chapel, and children are blessed at the spring.
