Aalten is a village and the largest place in the eponymous municipality in the eastern part of the Dutch province of Gelderland, which borders Germany. On January 1, 2011, the village of Aalten had a total of 12,935 inhabitants. Aalten is located in the eastern part of the Netherlands in the province of Gelderland in the Achterhoek, approximately in the middle of the north-south line Lichtenvoorde - Bocholt (D) and in the middle of the west-east line Varsseveld - Winterswijk.
