Leiden Central Station

Leiden Centraal Station is the largest railway station in the Dutch city of Leiden, province of South Holland. Leiden also has two other railway stations: on the southeast side of the city is station Leiden Lammenschans and on the southwest side, at the border of the municipalities of Leiden and Voorschoten, is station De Vink.

The first station Leiden was opened on June 15, 1843, on the Oude Lijn, the first railway line of the HIJSM. The original station building was replaced in 1879 by a new building designed by Dirk Margadant. Due to some delays in extending the line from the railway bridge over the Haarlemmertrekvaart in 1842, a temporary station was established on the east side of the railway bridge. Here, on August 17, 1842, the first train departed from Leiden to Amsterdam.
