To the Santuário do Senhor do Socorro sanctuary and the watermills of Labruja

Labruja is located on the Caminho Português de Santiago. From here begins the toughest and steepest climb on the Portuguese route to Santiago de Compostela. For many pilgrims this is a literal and figurative ordeal.

We limit ourselves to a visit to the Santuário do Senhor do Socorro sanctuary, which was to become a local Bom Jesus , and the Passadiços da Ribeira de São João , a walkway over suspension bridges and footbridges along an idyllic crystal clear river where ten watermills stood.

Along a restored watermill and over a suspension bridge we start the short climb to the sanctuary. The old ovens show that the pilgrims had a stop here.

We return along the same path and now walk the rest of the Passadiços da Ribeira de São João. Along a beautiful waterfall and 2 restored watermills we go to the church of Labruja. Return via a suspension bridge.
