Questa abbazia dell'VIII secolo accolse nel 825 le reliquie di San Uberto, vescovo di Liegi († 727), che fu quindi considerato l'apostolo delle Ardenne. Questo santo, invocato per curare la rabbia, fu alla base di un grande pellegrinaggio. Diverse chiese abbaziali seguirono San Uberto. L'attuale edificio, elevato a basilica nel 1927, presenta cinque navate, un deambulatorio e diverse cappelle. Sebbene la cripta e le torri risalgano all'XI e al XIII secolo, l'interno fu costruito solo tra il 1525 e il 1564 in uno stile gotico puro. La facciata barocca risale all'inizio del XVIII secolo, così come il sontuoso palazzo abbaziale.
