Costruito nell'80 d.C., trasportava acqua per circa 95 km dalle colline della regione di Eifel, nell'attuale Germania, all'antica città di Colonia Claudia Ara Agrippinensium . Se si includono anche le sorgenti secondarie, la lunghezza complessiva raggiunge i 130 km. La costruzione era quasi interamente costruita al livello del suolo, ed il flusso dell'acqua era provocato solamente dalla forza di gravità. Pochi ponti, tra cui uno lungo 1400 metri, erano necessari per attraversare la vallata. A differenza di altri famosi acquedotti, l'Eifel venne appositamente progettato per minimizzare il tragitto sopraelevato rispetto al suolo, al fine di metterlo al riparo da danneggiamenti e dal congelamento dell'acqua.
