Urkundlich erwähnt wurde die Kornmühle erstmals im Jahre 1396. Seit Ende des 14. Jahrhunderts wurde die Wasserkraft der Vechte am Standort Nordhorn zum Kornmahlen genutzt. Wann das erste Mühlengebäude errichtet wurde, ist nicht genau bekannt. Das jetzige Mühlengebäude stammt vermutlich aus dem Ende des 18. Jahrhunderts. Der Abschlussstein in der Vorderfront links oberhalb der Eingangstür besagt: "Ab ovo Renovata Anno MDCCXCII", übersetzt heißt das "von Grund auf renoviert anno 1792". Im Jahre 1873 wurde zusätzlich der Betrieb einer Sägemühle aufgenommen, die im Ersten Weltkrieg auch zur Erzeugung von Elektrizität genutzt wurde. 1931 erfolgte die Umstellung vom Wasserrad auf Turbinenkraft. Mittels dieser Neuerung wurde u. a. Roheis hergestellt. 1970 wurde der wirtschaftliche Betrieb eingestellt. Im Jahr 1989 wurde die Mühle restauriert und von der Stadt Nordhorn übernommen.
