L'Estadi Olímpic Lluís Companys, en homenatge al President de la Generalitat de Catalunya, Lluís Companys, afusellat pel règim franquista a la muntanya de Montjuïc, l'any 1940, es troba situat a la muntanya de Montjuïc. Fou projectat per l'arquitecte Pere Domènech i Roura i inaugurat l'any 1929 amb motiu de l'Exposició Universal de Barcelona. A la dècada dels seixanta fou infrautilitzat i les seves graderies començaren a evidenciar preocupants símptomes de ruïna. La celebració a Barcelona del Jocs Olímpics de 1992 permeteren la seva remodelació a càrrec de l'equip d'arquitectes Correa-Milà-Margarit-Buixadé i amb la participació de l'italià Gregotti.
