Adolphe Sax was born in 1814 in Dinant. As the son of an instrument maker, he began a music education at a young age in Brussels. His favorite instrument was the clarinet, but Sax soon started experimenting and tried to develop new instruments. In 1835, he presented a complex bass clarinet, and in 1841, he came up with a saxophone at the Brussels industrial exhibition. However, he did not receive the necessary recognition in Belgium, so he founded an instrument factory in Paris that grew into a company with more than 200 employees.
