Mechelse heath and valley of the Ziepbeek is a Natura 2000 area in Flanders. This area extends from Dilsen-Stokkem to Lanaken, parallel to the Meuse valley. It is part of the Hoge Kempen National Park: 3741 ha of the park has been designated as a European Special Protection Area. This area actually consists of a collection of nature and forest reserves and domain forests. The landscape is dominated by vast heathland, surrounded by dense forests. In the recesses of the steep edge, small streams spring forth, flanked by wet heaths.
