THE HELMETS OF HALEN 9KM - 44 Limburg helmets! Get

This walk brings a nice piece of history of the First World War. We start at the roundabout and walk out of the Lanciersstraat in the direction of Loksbergen. After 250m we come across the Heroes' Chapel. A chapel erected after the Second World War in honour of the fallen civilians and soldiers and the veterans of Halen. After 1 km we enter open fields. We turn onto the Betserbaan and head in the direction of two points of interest. First the Cyclists memorial, on the verge of a sunken road, with a flower bed and weeping willow. Afterwards, the most remarkable thing about this walk, the helmets of Halen. These are 44 concrete Stahlhelms that symbolize the German occupation in Limburg. Each helmet represents one Limburg municipality and has been artistically decorated by local artists, associations and schools. We are then 1.5 km away. After admiring this, we continue and turn left into the Kannoniersstraat. This field road and some sunken roads take us to the panorama of this hike. The whole of Halen can be seen in various places. We cross the Kauwplasstraat and continue in the Oude Leuvensebaan. When we are 4 km away we turn right in the Rozenstraat. This street is a climb of about 700m. When we are at the highest point, we descend for 2.5 km along paved roads in open fields. At the bottom we are 7.5km away. We take a short stretch of Liebroekstraat (150m) and then turn right to the Stadsbeemd. This road takes us back to the starting point after 1.5 km.
