The village is located in the middle of the woods, on the west flank of the Veluwe and has an important tourist function. Immediately south of Kootwijk lies the, from a landscape point of view, unique Kootwijkerzand. About five kilometers east, in the municipality of Apeldoorn, lies the town of Radio Kootwijk.
