Venlo is a city in the northern part of the Dutch province of Limburg and the urban core of the municipality of the same name. The city has 35,300 inhabitants (as of July 2008, source: CBS).
Venlo is a commercial, transport, and industrial city. The city is the center for the surrounding area as well as a shopping center for the neighboring German Ruhr area. The municipality of Venlo directly borders the German districts of Kleve and Viersen. Venlo is located at a bend in the Maas River and has a historical center, although World War II caused a great deal of damage.
