La forteresse de Fenestrelle a été construite de 1728 à 1850 par les rois de Sardaigne dans la vallée piémontaise de Fenestrelle, acquise en 1713 par Victor-Amédée II.
C'est la plus vaste forteresse d’Europe avec 1 300 000 m2. Située entre 1 135 et 1 785 m d’altitude, elle bloque sur 3 km de large la vallée, où passe la route du col de Montgenèvre à Pignerol et Turin.
