Pren el nom de l'antiga colònia romana de Interamna Lirinas.
Pignataro Interamna limita amb els municipis de Cassino, Piedimonte San Germano, San Giorgio a Liri, Villa Santa Lucia, Aquino, Esperia, Pontecorvo i Sant'Apollinare.
